Strengthening whānau is key to strengthening hapū.
Descendants of our collective – Ngā Hapū o Te Ahuahu, have been contributing to a collective fund, which we decide together how to use. In March 2025, we agreed to support whānau reunions at our two gathering marae—Parawhenua and Rāwhitiroa (Taumutu)—with a $200 koha for marae hire and guidance on sites of interest for hapū that whānau may want to visit with shared kōrero.
Hoki atu ki tōu maunga kia purea ai e koe ki ngā hau o Tāwhirimātea – Return to your mountain to be cleansed by the winds of Tāwhirimātea
A journey to strengthening whānau, healing and grounding often comes from returning to our maunga, awa, roto, moana, and whenua, reconnecting with our beginnings as uri.
So, get organise, plan a whānau reunion and take the opportunity to connect with hapū and strengthen your whānau ties. Just contact the comms team kiaora@teahuahu.nz to find out what to do to put the tono (request) thru at our next hapū gathering.
