NHoTA Summer Wānanga #2

April 19 @ 4:00 pm - April 21 @ 4:00 pm

Ngā Hapū o Te Ahuahu represents a collective of four hapū (Te Uri Taniwha, Ngāti Hineira, Ngāti Korohue, Te Whānau Whero) who have current and historical interests across the rohe of Taiāmai. This stretches from Te Ahuahu maunga and Lake Omapere and their surrounds, spreading out eastward following the Waitangi River to Waitangi and the Bay of Island and out to Te Kerikeri and Te Haupārua Inlet to name a few locations.

With the support of our collective hapū, the working group has organised two wānanga (January 2024 and April 2024) to introduce uri to some of our areas and sites of significance, which feature in our hapū connected Waitangi Tribunal claims.

Hapū uri will be introduced to sites that were wrongfully taken by the Crown and its agents via deceit, theft, force, policy, and legislation. It’s through having these ongoing wānanga of sharing of information and kōrero that informs and educates us all. Only once our collective hapū descendants can understand why there are historical claims against the Crown, that hapū will be able to have informed and full kōrero amongst ourselves as to what future redress & settlement may look like for us, whilst maintaining our hapū rangatiratanga.

Our second wānanga walking the whenua and learning about our hapū history, whakapapa and documents He Whakaputanga & Te Tiriti is confirmed for this April. An RSVP email will be sent out April 1st to all registered uri.
